A kind of acorn "Quercus Spinosa" which grew thick in the mountainside
by Mr.Tadashi Kurano in August, 2004
When the summer comes, the acorn becomes the woods of the evergreen oaks with the 2 - 6 m height which stretched to both sides of the way from Guozhuangping Terrace to Laoniuyuanzi Terrace of Lake Valley. According to the former assistant professor Tikao Nishiguti (Northeast University of Japan), this acorn is "Quercus Spinosa". The reason why only the leaf as much as 2 m of the lower parts of this tree have prickles seems to be not eaten by the deer and so on (It has the sense to endure to dry up and to be blowy, too). Quercus Spinosa grow thick in Mosaic -shape on the lime rock area or the steep slope which has the strong alkalinity of 2000 - 3800 m height. Quercus Spinosa in Japan seems to have crossed from China in the times when Japan still borders continent, and the species of Quercus Spinosa which is seen on Lake Valley seems to become this ancestor.
Note-1 : In China as of 2014, this is considered to be "Quercus semicarpifolia".

The fish which is seen in Lake Flower by Mr.Tkashi Shimojyo in July, 2004 I saw a lot of small fish at Lake Flower in Lake Valley. This fish preys while it swims against the water flow like the fish which live in a mountain stream in Japan. There are a lot of insects such as the larva of the mayfly under stone on the riverbed. The local person uses these insects and earthworm for the fishing. The fish gathers even if throws the dung of the yak into the stream. This fish which was boiled in the water is said that it is white flesh and have lightly seasoned taste.
Supplement : The Academic name is not clear but it seems to be a kind of the naked carp. It's body length is about 20 cm. A lot of these fish can be seen in the Big Lake of Lake Valley and Shuangqiao-gou Valley and so on. It is distributed over the source areas of Chang Jiang River such as Queen Valley.
